Reduce environmental impact and improve sustainability

As a social landlord we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment while providing energy efficient, comfortable homes in thriving, wildlife-friendly neighbourhoods.

We are working to ensure that new and existing homes are adapted, where possible, to improve their environmental performance while keeping energy bills affordable. For all works programmes we are collaborating with delivery partners to work towards zero carbon, and use the most economical construction methods.

Three quarters of the homes we manage achieve EPC band C, our target energy efficiency level for 2030. We are working to bring the remaining 25% up to this level over the next few years, while also reducing their carbon emissions. Our long-term commitment is to ensure all our homes – as well as our business activities – are net zero carbon by 2050. To achieve this we have ongoing improvement programmes and are accessing external funding to supplement internal budgets.

But we can’t do this alone; we need the support of our employees, residents and partner organisations. We are raising awareness of environmental issues and provide opportunities to protect the environment.

What are we doing to improve our environmental impact?

New homes

We strive to build new homes to the highest environmental standards, to keep energy and water bills low while benefitting local wildlife and enabling sustainable lifestyles. See our latest new developments on our Current Projects page.

Offices and operations

Our main office has a low carbon heating system and we have a growing electric vehicle fleet, to keep the emissions from our business operations low.

Engagement and collaboration

Becoming a truly sustainable organisation will be a joint effort. Internally we are upskilling teams throughout Fairhive so that we can increase our delivery of renewables, insulation, green space improvements and resource-saving measures. Externally we are working with local communities on sustainability plans and collaborating with a range of local partners, such as the Aylesbury Wombles,
