Statement on the death of Dinah Winfield JP

We were very saddened to hear that former Board member, Dinah Winfield, passed away on 4 September, age 95.

Dinah was a stalwart of the Board. As a council resident, she first joined the shadow Board that oversaw the transfer consultation and then setting up of the new housing association. She served as a resident Board member until retiring in September 2012, during which time she remained heavily involved in all we did.

In 2008, she (along with fellow involved resident Julie Williams) presented local Members of Parliament with a petition of over 1,400 residents’ signatures calling for the end of punitive tariffs on energy prepayment meters. This was our contribution to a National Housing Federation campaign that lead to an early-day motion and helped effect regulatory change.

Dinah was also a huge advocate for women, having been Chair of the Cooperative Group’s southern arm, and on the board of Cooperative Retail at a time when it was unusual to see women in such a role.

Our thoughts are with Dinah’s family at this time.
