Great Gardens competition opens today

Packets of Sunflower seeds

We’ve heard some amazing stories from our finalists in Great Gardens. From groups at Independent Living schemes growing vegetables for communal meals, to residents using gardening to improve their mental health or physical fitness, it’s about much more than green fingers.

We’re hoping that this year’s entry will be the biggest yet, because for the first time, we are asking people to nominate the gardens they see that should be in the competition.

If you see a beautiful garden on the school run, or you know one of your neighbours has a garden full of perfect veg, let us know the address, and we will do the rest.

Gardeners can still nominate themselves too, so please let us know all about your pride and joy.

To enter, all you have to do is fill in the application form. There was one included in the latest issue of Residents News, or you can download one below. You can fill it in digitally, then either print it or email to us. Send the completed form and a few photographs to Great Gardens, Fairfax House, 69 Buckingham Street, Aylesbury, Bucks HP20 2NJ; or email us at Please ensure emails do not exceed 5mb.

Don’t worry, we know its early spring and there’s a still lot of planting and growing to be done – you have until 28 June to enter. Judges will visit shortlisted gardens in July, and the winners will be announced at a special reception in August.
