Corporate Social Responsibility

The Trust is a registered charity itself, but we also try to identify other charities, both local and national, that we can partner with or support for the benefit of our residents and their communities.

Giving something back

As you can tell by our vision, ‘homes for living, communities for life’, we are committed to supporting the local communities in which our residents and employees both live and work. ‘Giving something back’ is our Corporate Responsibility giving programme, that enables and encourages our employees to support the charities and causes they know are important to local communities. It also covers support we give our residents that is outside of our activities as a Registered Provider. There are four aspects to ‘Giving something back':

  • Tuition Plus - Each August, we invite residents who have children in year 5 to enrol them for our tuition programme. It was originally set up to help them prepare for the 11+, but our residents have reported much wider benefits, like their children being moved up grades and generally growing in confidence. Inclusion in the programme is voluntary, but we do ask parents and children alike to be committed to attending as many sessions as possible.
  • Adopt a Scheme - this is our internal volunteering activity. Groups of employees are encouraged to ‘adopt’ one of our Independent Living Schemes, where they hold events, help out with gardening, tidying and simple jobs or just attend socially to chat to residents.
  • Employee Fundraising - We all have a charity that we prefer to support, so the Trust offers a fund for employees to boost their fundraising activities. Employees can claim either a modest amount of match funding or reimbursement for fundraising materials.
  • Giving Something Back at Christmas - The Trust organises a number of fundraising and donation activities over the Christmas period, which has become something of a strong tradition at Fairfax House. During Christmas 201, we raised over £1000 for Florence Nightingale Hospice and donated food items to the Vineyard Storehouse.

Our employees frequently enjoy taking part in national fundraising drives. Over recent months we have raised monies for Children in Need, Cancer Research UK and most recently for Shelter Fund. We actively encourage our staff to support charities of their choice, whether it is participating in a major fund raising event or running the school raffle, and we will promote their activities and achievements internally on our intranet.
