We have been made aware that criminals, posing as Trust employees, are trying to steal money from vulnerable residents. The thieves claim they represent the Trust, and ask to collect rent arrears. They appear to have created fake identity badges.
We urge all residents, if they receive an unexpected visit from someone claiming to be from the Trust:
• Do not let them in;
• Phone the Trust on 01296 732600 to clarify if they are who they say they are – do not use any other number;
• Report anything suspicious to the police immediately on 0845 8505 505;
• Do not hand over any money.
Ian Silver, Director of Housing and Community Services said “Doorstep crime is a despicable act against vulnerable people.
“No matter how convincing the story, under no circumstances would any Trust employee ask for cash on the doorstep, whether for arrears, repairs or any other reason. Normally, Trust employees always call to make appointments beforehand. But if we do arrive unannounced, residents should always call to check on the identity of their visitor.
“The Trust will do everything in its power to stamp out this type of crime, in co-operation with Thames Valley Police”.
