Making a Will

There are times when it is necessary to take legal advice on some matters. The Citizens’ Advice Bureau offers free, confidential legal advice. Resident Matters logo

You should make a will even if you do not consider that you have enough money or possessions to leave.

There are rules that apply to how the money and possessions of anyone who does not leave a will are allocated, and this may not follow your wishes. Also, if you are in a relationship but are not married/registered civil partnership, if your partner dies you cannot inherit from them unless there is a will. This could lead to financial hardship and other difficulties.

Making a will can be straightforward, and need not be expensive, but there are procedures that must be followed to make it legal and binding. Click here for more details.
