What is a Decent Home?

“In order to be decent, a home should be warm, weatherproof and have reasonably modern facilities”.

Bringing their properties up to The Government’s Decent Homes Standard is a requirement that all Social Landlords have to meet by 2010. However, this is only a minimum standard.

Working to our – higher - standard

At the time of transfer after consultation with our residents, we promised we would introduce our own Vale of Aylesbury Standard, that exceeded the Government’s Decent Homes, as part of our £105 million, five-year investment programme.

The Trust’s higher standard would include:

  • High quality fitted kitchens
  • New modernised bathrooms
  • High security double glazed doors
  • Fully double glazed windows with uPVC frames
  • New efficient central heating systems

This is the standard we have been working to over the last three years on our residents homes.

Where we are on Decent Homes?

We are well on target to ensure that all of the Trust's homes meet or exceed Decent Homes standard by the end of 2010.

So far we have fitted homes with:

  • 2,709 Kitchens
  • 1,830 Bathrooms
  • 10,775* Double glazed doors
  • 2,930 Double glazed windows
  • 3,908 Central heating systems
  • 1,230 Rewires, with many more properties having electrical upgrades

* Total number of doors fitted

The Trust believes our commitment to provide good quality home is a key element in any thriving, sustainable community.
